Enhance Product Development Finalist For Two Housewares Global Innovation Awards

Enhance Product Development, a Minneapolis-based design firm serving brand-name consumer product companies, start-ups and inventors alike, is turning heads in the housewares industry. Known for developing “smart solutions to real problems” on behalf of their clientele, Enhance was notified that two of its licensed products were finalists for the highly coveted IHA Global Innovation Awards. “We are both thrilled and humbled,” said Trevor Lambert, the founder and CEO of Enhance. “It is validation that our design process and methodology achieves meaningful results for our clients and licensees. In the end, that will always be our core focus.” The two products up for awards are the Skillet Slingers, a hand tool for browning ground-meats, and Exact Egg Boiler, a kitchenware solution that results in perfect hard-boiled eggs. The Skillet Slingers functions as a tool to claw, chop and grind the meat into perfect crumbles in at least half the time when compared to spatulas or wooden spoons. “During development, our slogan was, ‘claw, chop, grind…a way to brown meat, a way of life,'” said Lambert with a smile. “That may give you a window into the creative culture we have here at Enhance. That said, the product really works. After prototyping and sending them out for user feedback, nobody would give them back! That’s when we knew we were onto something special.” The Exact Egg Boiler consists of a rack that cradles eggs in place to prevent cracking during a rolling boil while simultaneously incorporating a user-friendly rinsing funnel that channels water to cool each egg evenly. It has been noted that at first glance, the product appears to be...

ABC Kids Show 2015 – Trade Shows- Why and How?

By Andy Ulseth Last week, Alex Paquin (Enhance’s Director of Business Development) and I attended the 2015 ABC Kids Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. As always, it was incredibly exciting and humbling to be in the presence of such innovative and striking ideas. We often get asked how we utilize our time and space at Trade Shows to ensure that we are making the most of the experience. Our process is carefully thought out, and planned ahead of time. When Alex and I attend trade shows, we don’t set up a booth or stand in one place for very long, as we like to move around and engage both exhibitors and vendors. This allows us to cover as much ground as possible and have more productive conversations than we would if we were to stand idle for the entirety of the show. Utilizing the eye-catching sell sheets designed by our team of top industrial designers, we are able to have significant and thoughtful conversations with product managers, art directors, and decision makers from hundreds of industry leading manufacturers. It is among the greatest joys of our job to introduce a potential licensee to an idea that was hatched by a client, developed in our studio, pitched by our licensing department, and to see the person’s eyes light up when they realize what the product is, how it works, and what it does. While most licensing deals are not struck at trade shows, they do provide us with an excellent foundation for relationship building and for brand awareness as we continue to push boundaries and make Enhance go-to the name...

Toy Industry Association Fair

Ah to be a kid again, wouldn’t we all want to go back to that time to dream of the new cool toy you desired. Or maybe hang out with your favorite Superheroes? Recently I got as close as it comes while attending the 2015 Toy Fair held in New York City at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. (FYI, my desired toy are the new Lego sets, all 331 new sets!) Along with the classic toys and board games, there were many new innovations at this year’s event that have come a long way since I was a kid. There were Superheroes’ and Cartoon Characters galore at the event including the Power Rangers. One of the most impressive new and innovative toys was Anki Overdrive! Anki Overdrive is a smartphone-controlled robotic racing game. The company improves on its previous Anki Drive by adding more tracks, and additional game-play modes. What a great excuse to get this one for the kids…”Yes dear, it’s for the kids!” The Toy Fair proved to be a successful show! There were enough toys and exhibitors to fill over seven football fields with the latest innovations in toys! This is beneficial for Enhance as we met with a variety of different types of companies that are looking for new innovations to add to their product lines. I met with a variety of the top manufacturers in the industry, some of who we have met with before, but also new ones to add to our network of contacts. To name a few companies we met with from the show include: Spin Master, Toysmith, Melissa and...

AAPEX/SEMA Trade Show

At some point or another we all have visions of cruising down the road with the sun shining, top down, radio playing our favorite song, and the wind blowing through our hair. It is for that reason that even for people who aren’t necessarily car enthusiasts, it is easy to be amazed at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) and the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) shows held in Las Vegas. I recently attended and met with a variety of the top manufacturers in the industry. I also got to see some of the latest trends and new products in Automobiles and Automobile Accessories. The AAPEX show was held at the Sands Expo Center, where SEMA is held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, both spanning 4 days of exhibitors, seminars, networking, and product demonstrations. This was a great avenue for me to network and get valuable industry feedback on the Automotive items that Enhance has developed and is looking to license. The AAPEX and SEMA combined are one of the biggest shows that Enhance attends, and there are companies that attend in all aspects of the automotive world. It was a very busy show pitching products to a variety of companies including 3M, Slime (ITW Global Brands), Talus Products, Striker, Astro Pneumatic, Cequent Performance Products, and Homak to name a few. I had met with Slime in the past, and knew of their growing bicycle product line. Coincidentally, we had a couple bike items in our portfolio that we had a meeting to discuss and they gave me valuable feedback on. One of the most interesting things and...

As Seen on Tv Trade Show

We are so excited to share our recent travels to attend the ERA/D2C Convention in Las Vegas! When bringing a new product to market, you will be hard pressed to find a better place to network with industry professionals and get a product exposure than the Electronic Retailers Association/Direct to Consumer (ERA/D2C) Convention. This show brings together the industry professionals in what is commonly referred to as Direct Response, or As Seen on TV industry. The great thing about this industry is that practically everyone wants to review new and innovative products, and they are very open to looking outside their company to do so. Typically they are looking for products that solve a problem, are highly demonstrable and have a cost of goods below $4. As you notice many of the current infomercials out there start with an unsightly problem, introduce the product, and highlight the magical benefits the product has to solve the problem at hand! We had such a great show and connected with some old friends including Allstar Marketing, Hampton Direct, Merchant Media, Lenfest, Idea Village and Tristar Products. While we have known most of these companies for years, it is always great to touch base with them and see their new products. Likewise, they like to see what we have in our bag of tricks to potentially license for their next big hit. At this year’s show we had 8 products escalate with various companies; and while not all 8 will necessarily make it to market, it is exciting any time a product moves on to the next level. This is an indicator of...
